Instagram is the largest photo-sharing platform owned by Facebook, since 2012.

It's been designed primarily for photo sharing, so you need to have a different approach to monetise your Instagram profile. Its challenging but is not impossible! Just check few figures from Metro

Even if you haven’t heard of Instagram before, you’ll walk away with good strategies to make your first income from the photo-sharing platform.

First, you should focus on building your following because without followers your photos go unnoticed.

  1. Reach and engage your Instagram Followers

You need some followers, to earn from Instagram, but you do need to focus on numbers but on those who are engaged with your profile.

Having a small following of 1,000 - 2 ,000+ members is enough to position yourself as a micro-influencer and begin monetising.

There a few critical elements that can help you grow your following. The Instagram algorithm for determining how to promote a post is based on a similar logic as Facebook’s algorithm.

Careful attention should to Instagram’s algorithm and its six ranking factors, which it revealed at a press conference in San Francisco in 2018.

Instagram revealed that there are three main factors that determine what you see in your Instagram feed: Interest ,Timeliness, Relationship

There are also three additional criteria that play a smaller part in your Instagram feed rankings: Frequency, Following, Usage

The Instagram ranking factors

  • Interest: Based on all your interests, the Instagram algorithm determines whether a post will be interesting to you.

  • Timeliness: Use Instagram Insights to check the times for when your Instagram audience is online as well as what your top posts are.

  • Relationship: What type of relationship do you have with your followers?

  • Frequency: How frequently do you post? It varies by business and audience, the most important element in frequency seems to be consistency, so do stick with the number of posts you settle on.

  • Following: This ranking signal is one that’s out of your control. That’s because it depends on the number of Instagram accounts your fans follow. If they follow hundreds, or even thousands of accounts, then your content is obviously less likely to appear in their feed. However, if a fan were to follow only 10 or even 20 accounts, Instagram is going to display your content quite frequently.

  • Usage: How do your users interact with instagram? Or do they sit for an hour in one sitting per day? The way your fans use the app will tell instagram what content to prioritize.

Instagram to prioritize people you have a “real” relationship with, so do be sure to form some type of connection with them, for example, by sending them direct messages and liking and commenting on their posts.

The ways to make your images and content more engaging.

  • Make sure your posts are high quality
  • Use the captions as an opportunity to encourage engagement with your followers.
  • Use high-quality photos that are interesting to your fan base.
  • Use hashtag best practices.

2.The main ways you can increase your business

There are four main ways you can monetise Instagram and let’s explore each way closely.

1. Request shoutouts from influencers in your niche

You can send a private message to someone, and see if they’d be interested in giving your brand a shoutout in exchange for some of promoting their brand or even money. This is a straightforward example of influencer marketing.

2.Post regularly and engage with the commenters

By regularly sharing what’s happening in your life or business, and listening to what they have to say. Instagram it’s a social platform – an extension of our offline interactions.

3. Use relevant hashtags # with every post and show your wit in captions.

Hashtags have been around since 2007 on social media platforms to cluster posts with a similar theme. And they work extremely well on Instagram.

The platform allows you to add up to 30 hashtags per post.

I recommend using between 10-15 hashtags # in every post. Preserve the caption of the text for adding more context to your post. Even if you add hashtags in the first comment, Instagram will pick them up.
